ORACLE SOA ADMIN SERVER FROZEN DURING STARTUP

Oracle SOA Server was Frozen during server startup and our support engineer waited for sometime guessing it could be a temporary issue. But it was not resolved. As it was an urgent issue, he called me at mid of the night on a Saturday.

1) I had a look at server logs and there is nothing written after below log entry. That means mostly server is waiting for something.

<22-Jun-2019 23:24:00 o’clock BST> <Notice> <Log Management> <BEA-170019> <The server log file weblogic.logging.FileStreamHandler instance=1689813051
Current log file=/u03/app/oracle/PER/admin/soa_domain/aserver/soa_domain/servers/AdminServer/logs/AdminServer.log
Rotation dir=/u03/app/oracle/PER/admin/soa_domain/aserver/soa_domain/servers/AdminServer/logs
is opened. All server side log events will be written to this file.>

INFO: HV000001: Hibernate Validator 5.1.3.Final

2) It looked like server is waiting for DB connection as highlighted above.

3) As it is midnight and to double check my assumption ran the strace against the server process. Following entry is observed in starce output:

recvfrom(921, “1776 336255276357u443″…, 8192, 0, NULL, NULL) = 127

3) 921 File descriptor refers to DB connection. That is soa server is waiting for db connection.

4) Checked with DBAs and confirmed that archive logs are full and DB is not responding.

5) Fixing DB issue resolved the issue.
